We were organized in 1921 under the State of Illinois’ Sanitary District Act of 1917. Today we provide sewer service and wastewater treatment to more than 60,000 people, which includes 20,000 residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. We operate and maintain a sewer system with over 250 miles of sewer main, and a Wastewater Treatment Center with a design average capacity of 11 million gallons per day.

When you wash your hands, flush the toilet, wash dishes, and run the laundry, all of the dirty water ends up at our Wastewater Treatment Center. It’s our job to clean that water and return it to the environment.

We not only clean the dirty water you send us, but we put the solids to good use too! The District processes the organic material into something called Biosolids, a free and natural fertilizer available to you.
